Fire Safety

Fire/Life Safety

The insurance industry has reported that over 52% of all loss claims are the result of fire-related incidents. In as much, we strongly suggest that special precautions be taken to either prevent the frequency of loss caused by fire or to minimize the severity of fire loss.

To minimize fire exposure caused by common perils, perform a walk through of your premises both prior to departing and retiring for the night. During the walk through, make certain that all appliances (i.e., ovens, ranges, curling irons, irons, etc.) are turned off and unplugged whenever possible. Never leave burning candles unattended. Also ensure that all wood, pellet, and/or coal burning stoves have chimneys and flues cleaned annually, that the stove door is kept closed unless adding fuel source, and that all combustibles are maintained 3’ from the surrounding area. Keep all matches and lighters out of children’s reach. And finally, if you choose to smoke, we urge you to do so responsibly, preferably outside the home, making certain that cigarettes are completely extinguished when done.

The single most important thing you can do to decrease the severity of a fire is to install automatic sprinklers in your home. We highly recommend a sprinkler system be installed if you are either building a new home or remodeling.
